Europe Travel Americans: These 6 Top Destinations Are Restriction Free

Should we be surprised that the countries imposing no new restrictions for Europe travel on Americans are all top tourist destinations? No, not really. They rely strongly on the US tourist dollar and clearly feel they’ve suffered enough without adding more disincentives to vacationers.

The big exception on this, so far, is Italy, which has added a test rule for vaccinated travelers and a 5-day self-isolation for unvaccinated. It’s the no.1 destination for Americans.

Other countries including Belgium and the Netherlands are cracking down on Americans by putting them on red lists. These rules apply to Israelis too who were also removed from the EU’S safe list at the end of August. The Netherland’s move will be a blow for many. Over with all that canal-gazing and café going in Amsterdam.

Germany too, is adding obstacles, but unlike the Dutch, only for unvaccinated travelers. Germany is applying the updated travel ban so tough restrictions apply to US arrivals. Unvaccinated travelers are banned from entry.

Meantime, other top destinations for Americans – like France, Spain – are adding no hurdles.

Europe Travel For Americans: These 7 Countries Indicate No Change In Rules

Croatia, France, Greece, Spain, and Portugal are among the countries giving a green light as usual to all Americans and Israelis. No quarantines required for the unvaccinated. Just tests.

AUSTRIA:

Both America and Israel remain on Austria’s safe list, for now, meaning no quarantine with proof of vaccination, or a test result.

France:

The US and Israel remain on France’s Green List. Non-vaccinated travelers must show a negative Covid test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival. Accepted tests: PCR and antigenic. For vaccinated travelers, proof of vaccination is needed as before.

Greece:

For Greece, all travelers must fill out a Passenger Locator Form before arrival and carry one of several travel documents including a vax certificate or negative test. In other words, business as usual.

Denmark:

In Denmark, there is no quarantine for any Americans. The US remains on Denmark’s “yellow” list after the announcement of the new EU travel restrictions.

Portugal:

Non-essential travel continues for all Americans as Israelis. All travelers on the country’s safe list from outside the EU must show a negative eu. See the updated list at Visit Portugal. It’s possible to get a test at the airport on arrival, but it’s paying, and you have to wait for the result before the vacation can begin.

Spain:

Spain is very light on the rules for unvaccinated. It was and still is for most countries. There is no quarantine or testing rule for Americans or Israelis. Just fill out the necessary pre-flight forms available here for all travelers.

Restriction Free Travel For Vaccinated Americans With EU Digital COVID certificate

All of these countries require an EU Digital Covid certificate or the equivalent issued at home. Different countries call these by various names.

In France, for example, it’s a health pass. This not only gets you in but around – on trains and domestic plane routes. But also into indoor restaurants and other closed public spaces.

Possibly, it may prove to go further as an invaluable entry ticket. One American traveler tells me of a friend who was denied entry to an outdoor market without a health pass!

Now, without further ado, bon voyage, buon viaggio, etc.

    1. Hi! Are you headed there? Let me check … OK so yes with test. But US state department has put morocco on its level 4 do not travel advisory due to Covid there which could mean insurance issues. To quote US Embassy there on entry rules “Passengers arriving from countries on List A are permitted to enter Morocco with a negative result of a PCR test administered within 72 hours of the date entering Morocco or proof of COVID-19 vaccination.  (Note that even if you have proof of vaccination, it may be advisable to also take a PCR test to have available, if asked.”
