Tamara Thiessen

Photographer

A globetrotting travel writer, journalist and photographer, my camera is always by my side (yeah, the real camera and the phone).

A proficient photographer and photo editor, my pics have illustrated hundreds of magazine and newspaper stories, in print and online. And illustrated travel guides and other books, including my illustrated book on Sydney cafes, Cafe Life Sydney and my Borneo Bradt Travel Guide.

I shoot with a Nikon full-frame 36-megapixel camera with various lenses. Even in the most unlikely circumstances – as here on the top of the world in Sarawak! The climb was hard enough without lugging that with me … But I am far from the heroes and heroines of the trade in my exploits.

My photography pursuits began during my studies in journalism and media in Canberra. For many years, I shot mostly in black and white. Today, I shoot with a Nikon D810, 36-megapixel, full-frame digital SLR camera.

Here are a few portfolio galleries – in the making. Amazing faces, places and critters from Borneo to Bangkok and the Black Forest. Photos evoking the incredible history, culture, design encountered on the road, and gastronomy, wine routes and marketplaces. And probably my favourite of them all … adventure, nature and the outdoors.
