Contact Me About News and Travel Stories
With three decades of experience as a foreign correspondent, I tackle news issues in France, the EU and Australia. In that time, I have written extensively for newspapers and magazines worldwide. You can see just a tiny sprinkling of the hundreds of stories in my portfolio here. I also report for radio programs and can be commissioned for live coverage or radio packages.
A journalist and travel writer, I write on daily news, travel, food, wine, design, business and culture. And I do so with flair and savoir-faire. Based between Australia and France, these are my two major beats – as well as Europe-wide coverage.
My travel writing beats include Australia, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Spain and Switzerland. I have contributed to travel guides on most of these places.
In Asia, I specialise in coverage of Borneo and Peninsular Malaysia. My Borneo Bradt travel guide, among my books, will be published in its 5th edition soon.
A self-declared hotel addict – I report on the hospitality industry, hotel and restaurant openings, trends and hotel design around the world.
My writing is compelling and knowledgeable, backed by thorough research and fact-checking. Or witty and literary, colourful and full of anecdotes when required.
Wherever I am in the world between my Australian and French bases, I promise I will get back to you pronto … Except when I am on a plane between continents, or upriver in Borneo.
Contact Me About Photography
Working with a Nikon D810, my photography forte is primarily landscape and travel photography. Places, faces, people, marketplaces and restaurants. I can be sent anywhere with my camera on commission, either just for the pics, or a writing and pic package. I am also a proficient photo editor with all the usual Adobe tools.
Book Commissions
I would love to hear from publishers and literary agents. I have a few books on the boil and am seeking literary representation. The subjects include a humorous nonfiction narrative on French life – and a foodie foray into French bakeries and patisseries by a true French tart. Also in the literary pipeline is an illustrated book on Paris – and in the realms of the imagination, a vegetarian cookbook.
Naturally, I am also available to work on travel and cultural guides – as an author, collaborator or a contributing photographer.
Editing/Copyediting Projects
I have worked as an editor in news and travel media, book publishing and for government departments. In the latter case, extensively. From writing narratives and editing Royal Commission reports, to technical editing for Transport for NSW. I have also edited books – from my own travel guides to a recent historical non-fiction for a Sydney writer.
For 30 years, I have edited every story I work on … to present to editors in a word-perfect state.
From copyediting to structural, technical editing and content creation, I am a whizz wordsmith and editor.
Content Creation
My writing flair and savoir-faire lend well to content creation and editing projects, and I adapt to the subject like a fish in water – but with the grace and beauty of a butterfly. I have worked with Australian and European travel clients on content creation for websites and email campaigns, and have also desktop published brochures and flyers.
